Is Mold Free Coffee A Thing?
Is mold free coffee a thing?  What a question to ask!  Until a couple of years ago, it never even crossed my mind to check into the mold aspect of coffee beans.  I knew to make sure I was using organic coffee (side-note: did you know that most coffee is high in pesticides?), but I never-ever thought about mold being in my coffee beans, until..
A couple of years ago my son was fighting mold.  It was was taking its toll on his body and took several months to get it under control (thankfully he was able to do this with the help of our holistic health practitioner).  One of the first questions she asked us was "have to checked to make sure your coffee doesn't have mold in it?"  We were both taken off guard.  Yes, we drink coffee, it's organic...isn't that all there is to it?  So, the research began.  Thankfully her husband had found a good brand so we switched to it right away.
We have found one we really like the flavor of and is affordable, even on a tight budget.  Through my research I have seen some pretty high price tags on coffee.  And this brand is one that we are able to get on sale quite often, which means we stock up!  You can check it out here (affiliate link): Kicking Horse Coffee
Our favorites are:
Medium Roast: Three Sisters and Smart (let's say Donkey)
Dark Roast: Grizzly Claw and 454 Horse Power

Ok, back to the reason why it's important to ensure your coffee is not only organic, but also mold free.
Mold can develop on coffee beans during various stages of production, including cultivation, processing, storage, and transportation.
Here's why it matters:
  1. Health Concerns: Mold-contaminated coffee beans can pose health risks if consumed. Some molds produce mycotoxins, which are toxic compounds harmful to human health. Mycotoxins such as aflatoxins and ochratoxins are associated with various adverse health effects, including liver damage, kidney problems, and carcinogenicity.
  2. Impact on Flavor: Mold can significantly impact the flavor and aroma of coffee. Moldy coffee beans may have an off-flavor, described as musty, earthy, or sour. Mold contamination can alter the taste profile of coffee and diminish its overall quality.
As you can see from this little bit of info, if you value your health and what you put into your body, it's important to choose your coffee wisely.
Organic = less pesticides
Mold-Free = better for your body as well as better flavor

I always encourage you to do your own research.  Sometimes we don't even know that we NEED to do more research.  I am associated with a lot of health conscious people.  The number of them who had no idea about mold in coffee (just like me!) still amazes me.  So my one purpose for this post is open your eyes to one more thing to look into.
Here's to your health ☕️
